What is the best machine for making espresso at home and how difficult is it to use?

the best machines are pump driven. steam driven machines will not make a high quality shot. they can get pretty expensive. most are pretty easy to use. you just need to put finely ground espresso into the portafilter, tamp it, attach it to the machine and pull the shot. there are also super automatic machines which grind, tamp brew and clean up with the push of a button. these are the easiest to use, and will make a consistent shot. but the cost the most, and have the least amount of user control. What is the best machine for making espresso at home and how difficult is it to use?
we got ours at a brookstone... it works really well (the espressos taste great) but there's a lot of pieces to the machine. apparently all machines like that have a lot of pieces, but im not so sure...What is the best machine for making espresso at home and how difficult is it to use?
