hi i am oboe player and when i went to band camp last year i learned a little bit about making reeds and i really want to learn more. oh and i am in eight grade.When is it a good time to start making oboe reeds?
The best thing to do is to start taking private lessons. Oboe is a difficult instrument, as is any instrument, and the best way to improve is to take private lessons. Then, tell your teacher that you would like to devote some lesson time for reed making. They will be able to show you the right techniques and the best tools. Not only will you learn how to make reeds, but your playing will improve immensely from the lessons.
