Can someone give me some information on making candy molds?

I'm looking to make some candy molds and I'm wondering how to go about doing it. Is there a certain plastic I should use? Is it readily available at the consumer level? What materials should I use to make the original sculpt that the mold will be based on? When making the candies, how should I prep the molds?
