How can I stop my cat from making bowel movement in the HOUSE?

Sometimes she does it in the basement in the same spot it's weird and annoying or she will use her litter box. Is she trying to tell me something.How can I stop my cat from making bowel movement in the HOUSE?
some cats are just plain funny about the box. some wont use the box if there is something in it like the last poop she did. is she old, or fat? arthritus may be the culprit. sometimes getting to where the box is or even getting into the box is difficult. my 11 year old cat is fat and i believe has arthritus. she just decided one day she was going to pee in front of the box instead of going in. thought it was a territorial thing..it wasnt...thought it was a uti...it wasnt. she had a hard time in the cat box because it was a tight squeeze for an older, fat, arthritic cat. i got a new box that was very roomy, cut the opening lower so she didnt have step up high to get into the box and the problem went away completly. those are just a couple of ideas...but of course you must rule certain things out by a trip to the vet....or get lucky with your first idea, cheapest idea, etc.How can I stop my cat from making bowel movement in the HOUSE?
if it is arthritus...a second cat box in the basement is a good idea. she obviously [if its arthritus] is having a hard time and doesnt want to make the trip upstairs or wherever her box is. Report Abuse

put the litter box on the spot she keeps doing her business. She will get used to the litter box. Once she is used to the litter box, move it closer to the spot you want it step by step
she maybe sick. try to keep her from the spot she usually uses. talk to your vet about it also. and if you see her about to go on the floor then pick her up and put her in her litterbox
