How to avoid burning yourself when making frybread?

I am making frybread with a group of students for Home Ec class, and have a recipe. My only concern is how to do it without being burned by the hot oil, from the oil splashing up when you put the bread in.

We do not have a deep fryer, but are using frying pans, both electric and non-electric.

How do you do this without burning?How to avoid burning yourself when making frybread?
Use tongs to lower it into the hot oil. Stand back... and wear long sleeves.How to avoid burning yourself when making frybread?

Things You鈥檒l Need:

* 1 C of flour

* 1 Tsp of Sugar

* Salt to taste

* 2 Tsp of Baking Powder (rounded)

Step1

Mix in bowl and add enough water to make dough stiff.

Step2

Form into flat pieces one half inch thick and flour 4 inches across.

Step3

Put in very hot deep frying oil.

Step4

When it floats and it's light-golden, flip it over.

If it looks like a small bubbly frisbee...then you succeeded. Enjoy!

Use long enough utensils so that you do not get close to the grease.

see my link below for this handy splatter cover.

You can use this as you put the bread in with long handled tongs as it also splutters whilst cooking as well.

Good luck.
You ease the dough into the hot oil, don't drop it in. Yummm! Wish we had made that when I was in Home Ec!
